5 Reasons Why DRYLOK® Blows Competitors out of the Water!
Whether you’re a homeowner with DIY inclinations or a professional responsible for volume applications, masonry waterproofing is the kind of job worth doing right the first time. Apply an inferior product to concrete, cinder blocks, brick, or stone, and you could end up with a real mess. Imagine investing in a product, then putting in all the time and labor, only to discover that it just doesn’t work. Seriously, whether you’re waterproofing interior or exterior walls or floors, above or below ground, DRYLOK® is the best bet.
Here’s why…
1. A HISTORY OF PROVEN PERFORMANCE
Manufactured since 1953 by United Gilsonite Laboratories, DRYLOK® has withstood the test of time and emerged as a proven winner, rated #1 by a leading consumer publication. Today, there’s a DRYLOK® for virtually every application. Although DRYLOK® Powdered Masonry Waterproofer has been around the longest and is NSF-certified for use with potable water, our brand’s line extensions currently include a variety of ready mixed formulas such as DRYLOK® Original Masonry Waterproofer, DRYLOK® Extreme Masonry Waterproofer, DRYLOK® Floor & Wall Masonry Waterproofer, and a wide range of complementary home improvement products.
Although many competing waterproofers have sprung up over the years, often as a tactic designed to snatch a little market share on the fringe of a company’s area of expertise, in a side-by-side, truth-be-told comparison, nothing performs like DRYLOK®.
2. WARRANTY
FULLY TRANSFERABLE PRODUCT WARRANTIES
In a time when fine print is all the rage and exceptions thrive, many manufacturers are squeaking by with empty promises, limp guarantees, or – even more disturbing – nothing at all. It’s just stuff in a can. No support. Zero accountability.
Here at UGL, we stand behind our products. Many of our employees have spent their 50+ year careers here. We’re incredibly proud of our people, their work ethic, and the quality of the products they produce. So proud, in fact, we’re willing to stand up and make promises we’ll actually keep.
Our three most popular waterproofers come backed by fully transferable warranties. That’s a big deal. It means that you can invest in our products, incorporate them into a home or building, and when that property changes hands, the warranty does too. A warranty transfer can translate into a considerable increase in your resale price, especially if water intrusion is a common problem for nearby properties.
DRYLOK® Original Masonry Waterproofer comes with a Fully Transferable 10 Year Limited Warranty
DRYLOK® Extreme Masonry Waterproofer comes with a Fully Transferable 15 Year Limited Warranty
DRYLOK® Floor & Wall Masonry Waterproofer comes with a Fully Transferable 7 Year Limited Warranty
3. TESTING AND HOW WE AUTHENTICATE OUR CLAIMS
NO INFLATED PRODUCT CLAIMS
Have you ever bought a car? Did you ever feel, during the sales pitch, the salesperson was aggressively pushing specific details that sounded extremely important? Something about power. Maybe big numbers? At the end of the day, you probably only cared about one issue…will it do the job? No baloney. No fluffy claims.
In the waterproofing industry, today’s fluff is a pumped-up PSI number (pounds per square inch). This number refers to the amount of pressure exerted by water against the masonry surface (also known as hydrostatic pressure). One waterproofer even bears a label stating it will withstand up to 20 PSI.
Here’s the problem with that. According to an independent, highly reputable testing lab, “Typical masonry units, obtained for this testing from commercial masonry supply companies, could crack if tested above 15 PSI.” To put it another way, if the cinder block itself is subject to failure at pressures above 15 PSI, what good is a 20 PSI claim? No good at all. Making this type of claim creates false differentiation that misinforms the public at large.
In the world of waterproofing, it’s most important that products conform to the voluntary consensus technical standards developed and published by ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials), an international standards organization. Also, when reviewing performance claims, remember the average basement is typically only 9 feet below grade.
At UGL, we’re 100% clear on our claims:
DRYLOK® Original Masonry Waterproofer will withstand 10 pounds of hydrostatic pressure (PSI), equivalent to a wall of water 22 feet high, and is GUARANTEED TO STOP WATER. It has been tested to ASTM standards:
ASTM D 16 – Standard Terminology for Paint, Related Coatings, Materials and Applications
ASTM D 1653 Method A (Dry Cup) – Standard Test Methods for Water Vapor Transmission of Organic Coating Films
ASTM D 6904 – Standard Practice for Resistance to Wind-Driven Rain for Exterior Coatings Applied to Masonry (98 mph)
ASTM D 7088 – Standard Practice for Resistance to Hydrostatic Pressure for Coatings Used in Below Grade Applications Applied to Masonry
DRYLOK® Extreme Masonry Waterproofer will withstand 15 pounds of hydrostatic pressure (PSI), equivalent to a wall of water 33 feet high, and is GUARANTEED TO STOP WATER. It has been tested to ASTM standards:
ASTM D 16 – Standard Terminology for Paint, Related Coatings, Materials and Applications
ASTM D 1653 Method A (Dry Cup) – Standard Test Methods for Water Vapor Transmission of Organic Coating Films
ASTM D 6904 – Standard Practice for Resistance to Wind-Driven Rain for Exterior Coatings Applied to Masonry (140 mph)
ASTM D 7088 – Standard Practice for Resistance to Hydrostatic Pressure for Coatings Used in Below Grade Applications Applied to Masonry

ASTM D 16 – Standard Terminology for Paint, Related Coatings, Materials and Applications
ASTM D 1653 Method A (Dry Cup) – Standard Test Methods for Water Vapor Transmission of Organic Coating Films
ASTM D 6904 – Standard Practice for Resistance to Wind-Driven Rain for Exterior Coatings Applied to Masonry (98 mph)
